Creating Standard Variations in a CSV File
There are 3 elements of creating a parent-child relationship (variation):
1. The parent product: product displayed in search results
• A non-buyable product used to relate child products
2. The child products: products that are related to each parent product
• an instance of the parent product. You can have many child products that are all related to one parent product. Each child varies in some way (variation theme), from one another.
3. The variation theme: relationship between the parent and the child
• defines how related products differ from each other. For example, child products can differ from each other by size, color, age group, gender, material, pattern, or combination of size+color, etc.
Steps to Create a Standard Variation:

In the csv, add values in required fields listed below for Parent Products
a. ItemID
b. Title
c. Description
d. Category
e. GroundService
f. GroundShippingPrice
g. GroundShippingPriceWithAdditional

Standard Variation Themes are: Size, Color, AgeGroup, Material, Gender, and Pattern
a. In the Parent row, set the value of “Yes”, for the appropriate Variation Theme
b. In each Child row, set the value that makes the item unique
Repeat 3a and 3b for up to three variation themes, if needed.
Example: Parent product (red) and child products (green) having two Variation Themes – Color and AgeGroup
Creating Custom Variations in a CSV File
In addition to Standard Variations, MoreCommerce supports custom variations. Custom variations are those where child products differ from one another by some other variation theme than the supported Standard Variation Themes of Size, Color, AgeGroup, Material, Gender, and Pattern.
Steps to create custom variations are almost identical as creating standard variations, with the exceptions of using custom Variation Theme fields: Variation1, Variation2, Variation3 and in Step 3 – Set Variation Theme, where the Parent Product value is set to the name of the variation theme and not to “yes”.
Steps to Create a Custom Variation:
- Create Parent Product Entry
In the csv, add values in required fields listed below for Parent Products
a. ItemID
b. Title
c. Description
d. Category
e. GroundService
f. GroundShippingPrice
g. GroundShippingPriceWithAdditional

Custom Field Variation Theme: Variation1, Variation2, and Variation3
a. In the Parent row, set the name for the appropriate Variation Theme
• Example of a custom variation theme name: style
b. In each Child row, set the value that makes the item unique
Repeat 3a and 3b for up to three variation themes, if needed.
Example: Parent product (red) and child products (green) having two Custom Variation Themes – Style and Composition.
* Your product may have a maximum of 3 variations, up to 40 options for each variation, and up to 250 total combinations of options. For example, if you have a product with 2 variations, such as size and color, and you have 10 size options, then your color variation can only have up to 25 options (10 sizes x 25 colors = 250 total combinations).
